## Origin This came to me during a panel discussion on Emerging Geopolitics in High Technology at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2020. The panel featured Australian Strategic Policy Institute Deputy Director, Danielle Cave and Ambassador Latha Reddy. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nO2ROLxf-Qo" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> ## My column - [India should create bubbles of trust with its geopolitical allies](https://www.livemint.com/opinion/columns/india-should-create-bubbles-of-trust-with-its-geopolitical-allies-11604842963933.html) >A few months ago, this column had argued that the tech war between the United States and China is being fought across [a flexible, porous bamboo curtain](https://www.livemint.com/opinion/columns/the-us-china-tech-war-is-being-fought-across-a-bamboo-curtain-11598796949309.html), and India’s interests lie in staying out of the Sinosphere while creating circles or bubbles of trust “with the US, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Singapore and South Korea that will help Indian companies, professionals and consumers find themselves in circles of opportunity." Even if political changes around the world rekindle interest in multilateral approaches to world trade, technology and climate change, New Delhi must prioritize deepening relationships with its geopolitical allies (there, I said the word). Like air bubbles for international travel during the pandemic, first create bubbles of trust bilaterally with strategic partners and then explore whether these can coalesce into larger bubbles that include more countries. ## Requirements - Four things are necessary to create bubbles of trust - Strengthen geopolitical convergences, - increase faith in each other’s judicial systems, - deepen economic ties, and - boost other countries’ trust in one’s citizens. ## References - [India should create bubbles of trust with its geopolitical allies](https://www.livemint.com/opinion/columns/india-should-create-bubbles-of-trust-with-its-geopolitical-allies-11604842963933.html) - [Siliconpolitik: The Case for a Quad Semiconductor Partnership – NUS Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS)](https://www.isas.nus.edu.sg/papers/siliconpolitik-the-case-for-a-quad-semiconductor-partnership/) - [Bubbles of Trust: A decentralized blockchain-based authentication system for IoT](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0167404818300890) "create secure virtual zones (_bubbles_) where things can identify and trust each other." ## Colophon Status: [[Brewing]]
